Sulphur Springs Couple Arrested for Assaulting Deputies During Son's Warrant Attempt

Juana Jeanette Jennings and Valton Van Jennings

Hopkins County Deputies faced resistance while attempting to serve a felony warrant in Sulphur Springs on Thursday, February 15th. The incident occurred at a residence on County Road 2300.

Upon arrival, deputies knocked on the door but received no response. Through the kitchen windows, they observed movement inside the house by Valton and Juana, the parents of the individual named in the warrant, Everett Jennings. As deputies approached the northwest side of the house, they spotted Everett attempting to flee through a bedroom window, only to retreat back inside upon noticing law enforcement presence.

Subsequently, Juana met deputies at the southern door, where she was informed of Everett's felony warrant. Upon entering the house, deputies encountered Valton in the hallway. A physical altercation ensued as Valton and Juana resisted, pushing and grabbing deputies to prevent access to the bedroom where Everett was last seen. Valton's resistance was forceful enough to dislodge a deputy's badge.

Despite their efforts, deputies were unable to locate Everett. However, they discovered his wallet containing identification and checks addressed to him in the bedroom. Valton later admitted to being aware of Everett's felony warrant.

Juana Jeanette Jennings, 65, and Valton Van Jennings, 73, both of Sulphur Springs, Texas, were subsequently arrested and booked into the Hopkins County Detention Center. Juana faces charges of assault on public servants, hindering apprehension or prosecution of a known felon. Valton faces similar charges.
