A 21-year-old DeBerry woman has been charged by Gladewater Police Investigators with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault following a crash in September that claimed the life of a passenger. The woman, identified as Emerald Melanie Ramirez, was reportedly driving along Pacific Avenue in Gladewater when she lost control of her vehicle and collided with a culvert guard railing, causing the vehicle to spin 180 degrees.
According to authorities, a passenger who was not wearing a seatbelt was thrown into the windshield upon impact. The injured passenger was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to their injuries. Ramirez, along with an infant, was also transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
A crash report by the Texas Department of Transportation indicates that the incident occurred on Sunday, September 17, 2023. Following investigations, Ramirez was arrested on Monday and taken into custody. She has since been booked into the Gregg County Jail with a $50,000 bond set.
