Drug Distribution Investigation in Upshur County Leads to Five Arrests

A two-year investigation into drug distribution in Upshur County concluded on Friday with the arrest of five individuals. The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that the special investigations unit spearheaded a raid on a residential compound in the 9000 block of Bob-O-Link Road as the culmination of the extensive probe.

The raid, conducted in the early hours of Friday, involved members of the special investigations unit, Upshur County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigators, and patrol deputies. During the operation, authorities uncovered drugs, weapons, including a firearm engraved with "Ellis County Sheriff’s Office," and a severely malnourished dog chained outdoors. The distressed animal was taken to a veterinarian for evaluation.

The following individuals were arrested at the scene on various charges:

  1. Cameron Scott Spears, 38, of Gladewater, faces charges of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and cruelty to non-livestock animals.

  2. Jimmy Wayne Skinner, 50, of Gladewater, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and a parole violation.

  3. Hailey Renee Shaddix, 33, of Gladewater, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and two warrants for theft of property.

  4. A 44-year-old homeless man, whose name is withheld pending arraignment, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a dangerous drug, and possession of marijuana.

  5. A 40-year-old Hawkins woman, whose name is withheld pending arraignment, was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

According to Investigators, Cameron Scott Spears was the primary target of the raid. During the operation, a deputy was bitten by a dog and has since been released after receiving treatment. Additionally, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office was notified about the firearm bearing their engraving found at the scene.
