Christopher Sutton

In a Friday afternoon incident on February 2, 2024, at approximately 3:31 pm, a Paris Police officer responded to a shoplifting report in the 3800 block of Lamar Avenue. Store employees alleged that Christopher Sutton, 29, attempted to return stolen items using an old receipt to obtain cash.

Upon arrival, the officer confronted Sutton, who was taken into custody for further investigation. As the officer escorted Sutton to the asset protection office, the suspect attempted to evade arrest by fleeing on foot. A pursuit ensued, and Sutton ignored commands to halt until the officer deployed a Taser.

Sutton, with a prior arrest record for theft, now faces charges of Theft of Property less than $2,500 with two previous convictions and Evading Arrest or Detention with an earlier conviction. During the arrest, law enforcement discovered Sutton in possession of Methamphetamine. In an attempt to discard the illegal substance, he was additionally charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Tampering with Evidence.
