In a dramatic turn of events on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at 3:28 pm, 20-year-old Kenneth Menessy managed to escape custody during a prisoner transfer from the Forney Police Department. Menessy, who had been arrested the previous day for Burglary of a Building, slipped out of his restraints and fled on foot from the officers.
A swift response ensued, as multiple law enforcement agencies joined forces to locate the escapee. The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Terrell Police Department, Forney Police Department, and Precinct #2 Deputies mobilized quickly to initiate a search operation.
Approximately 20 minutes later, Menessy was apprehended without incident at a local McDonald's. Following his capture, he was transported to the Kaufman County Law Enforcement Center where he faces charges for both Burglary of a Building and Escape.
In light of the incident, the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office has announced plans to review departmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance. The investigation into the escape is ongoing.
