Texarkana Police Officers apprehended Sharon Dawson on Monday, January 29, following her attempt to cash two checks at a local business. The store owner, already aware of Dawson's previous counterfeit checks, promptly alerted authorities.
Having cashed identical checks for Dawson on two prior occasions, the store owner had discovered their fraudulent nature after the fact. When Dawson returned for another attempt, the business owner immediately called 911.
Initially asserting that the checks were payroll from her alleged job at a nearby motel, Dawson's credibility crumbled under scrutiny. Officer Austin Ward verified her claim with the motel, only to find they had no record of her employment.
Subsequently, Dawson was arrested for forgery, and a search incident to her arrest uncovered a baggie of methamphetamine in her possession. She now faces charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Forgery, leading to her booking into the Bi-State Jail.
While in custody on these charges, a detective executed a warrant for an additional Forgery charge linked to the counterfeit checks Dawson had previously cashed at the business.
