Explosion and Fire Uncover Marijuana-Growing Operation in Upshur County

In Upshur County, a Saturday explosion and subsequent fire just south of Gilmer revealed a marijuana-growing operation. First responders, who arrived at the scene, discovered a residence and a separate building on the property dedicated to cultivating marijuana. Although no occupants were found in the house, authorities uncovered over 70 marijuana plants of various sizes, from recently harvested remnants to specimens standing over six feet tall. A witness reported seeing a car speeding away from the location. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
