In a routine traffic stop on Monday evening at 6:55, a Paris Police officer pulled over a vehicle in the 700 block of W. Center due to an expired registration. The driver, identified as Erik Lynn Gilbert, 43, and the passenger, Daylan Trey Copeland, 18, were both taken into custody.
During the investigation, officers discovered methamphetamine that had been discarded in a cup meant for disposing of beverages. Copeland, attempting to avoid arrest on other warrants, provided officers with a fictitious name. As a result, Copeland faces charges including possession of a Controlled Substance, tampering with evidence, failure to identify as a fugitive from justice, along with other misdemeanor warrants.
Gilbert, the driver, was charged with possession of a Controlled Substance and tampering with evidence.
