On the evening of January 24, 2024, the Fannin County Office of Emergency Management received information from the Lamar County Sheriff's Office regarding a possible downed aircraft at the Lamar/Fannin County Line.
At 8:53 pm, the Fannin County Sheriff's Office and the Office of Emergency Management initiated a collaborative effort to locate the aircraft. After a search, the plane was found in far Northeast Fannin County near the Red River. The aircraft, identified as a single-engine plane, had departed from the Addison Airport.
Tragically, sources have confirmed that the pilot lost their life in the incident. Radar data indicates a sudden nose dive leading to the crash. Preliminary reports suggest that the pilot intentionally crashed the plane, leaving behind a suicide note.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
UPDATE: The pilot has been identified as 23-year-old Logan Timothy James of Stokesdale, North Carolina. The aircraft was stolen on Wednesday afterrnon from the ATP Flight School in Addison.
