East Texas Mother Arrested for Fatal Wrong-Way Crash That Killed Her Daughter

Krystle Medeiros

On January 4, 2024, 37-year-old Krystle Medeiros was arrested after she caused a wrong-way head-on collision that claimed the life of her 9-year-old daughter, Kylie Medeiros.

According to arrest records, Krystle Medeiros was taken into custody on Monday, January 22nd, and charged with intoxication manslaughter. The fatal wreck occurred on State Highway 64, where Medeiros, driving an SUV, collided head-on with a pickup truck while on the wrong side of traffic.

Both Krystle and Kylie Medeiros were transported to the hospital for treatment.

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol inside the vehicle, although no drinks were found. At the hospital, Krystle was identified as the driver, and her daughter Kylie as the passenger.

Hospital staff informed the trooper that Krystle Medeiros admitted to drinking. Subsequent testing revealed her blood alcohol concentration reading to be 0.35, more than four times the legal limit of 0.08 in Texas.

Tragically, Kylie Medeiros succumbed to her injuries in the early morning hours of January 5.

Records from the Smith County Jail indicate that Krystle Medeiros has faced multiple arrests for driving while intoxicated and public intoxication over the years. In her most recent DWI arrest in September 2021, she pleaded guilty to the charge in November of the same year. The court sentenced her to 20 months of probation, 100 community service hours, and participation in the DWI Repeat Offender Program.

Medeiros remains incarcerated with a $100,000 bond.
