The Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) reported that seven individuals were arrested for shoplifting at Walmart over the weekend. This adds to the more than 300 shoplifting-related arrests made by MPPD at Walmart throughout the year 2023.
MPPD emphasizes that claims of accidental oversight, such as forgetting to scan items or thinking they had scanned them, will not be accepted as valid explanations for shoplifting incidents.
Furthermore, individuals caught shoplifting from Walmart will face criminal trespassing charges, resulting in a one-year ban from the store. Additionally, repeat offenders with two or more theft convictions will be subject to enhanced charges, elevating subsequent arrests to a State Jail Felony level, irrespective of the value of the stolen items.
