Upshur County Deputies apprehended 19-year-old Gilmer resident Shaun Michael Brown Jr. following a shooting incident on Sunday night, reported to be drug-related. Brown allegedly shot an 18-year-old man during a dispute over payment for marijuana. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently listed in serious condition.
Officers from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a shooting in the 1600 block of Lupine Road shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the injured 18-year-old male. The altercation, which escalated into violence, centered around a disagreement over payment for marijuana.
A firearm was recovered at the scene by investigators, along with several ounces of marijuana. Brown has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and his bond has been set at $100,000.
