Paris Police Officers responded to an accident at the intersection of S. Church and Washington on Sunday night at 11:40. The incident involved a vehicle striking a stop sign. Upon arrival, the officers made contact with 41-year-old Shakisha Danielle Smith who admitted to drinking and driving. Subsequently, Smith was taken into custody for DWI.
Despite being asked to perform field sobriety tests, Smith refused. In response, officers obtained a search warrant for her blood and transported her to Paris Regional for a nonconsent blood draw.
At the medical facility, Smith resisted the procedure, attempting to kick and strike the officers. They managed to restrain her, successfully performed the blood draw, and charged Smith with DWI and Resisting Arrest. Smith also had a previous arrest for DWI. Her bond was set at $5,000.
