Paris Police Arrest Suspect in Early Morning Hit-and-Run, Pursuit Ends in Multiple Charges

In the early hours of Saturday morning, at 2:51 am on January 2nd, Paris Police officers responded to a reported accident in the 800 block of W. Campbell St. Witnesses at the scene reported that a vehicle had collided with a utility pole, leading to a power outage in the area. The vehicle then left the scene, heading East. Witnesses described the involved vehicle as a four-door, dark-colored car with significant front-end damage.

While en route to the reported incident, an officer observed a vehicle matching the given description at the intersection of Fitzhugh Avenue and Tudor Street. The officer decided to initiate a stop on the vehicle in the 900 block of Tudor. As the officer approached the vehicle, the suspect attempted to flee the scene, driving off in the vehicle. A brief pursuit followed, concluding in the 600 block of 20th NE.

Upon coming to a stop, the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Kanisha Sharda Perkins exited the vehicle. Perkins displayed signs of heavy intoxication. Subsequently, she was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest/Detention in a vehicle, Failing to Stop after striking a structure in the highway, and Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). It was also revealed that Perkins had numerous city traffic warrants for misdemeanor offenses.
