Mesquite Police Made an Arrest in Connection with Homicide of Missing Dallas Teacher

Victim: Jennifer Mende Olascoaga and Murderer: Sixto Banegas Matute

In a recent announcement, the Mesquite Police Department revealed that a man has been arrested in connection with the death of 24-year-old Jennifer Mende Olascoaga, a missing Dallas Independent School District teacher from Dallas.

Olascoaga was reported missing in early October and had not been seen since late September. Her abandoned car was discovered on September 28, 2023, near the intersection of Milam Road and Lawson Road.

During the missing person's investigation, the Seagoville Police Department received forwarded text messages from a friend, suggesting the possibility of foul play in Olascoaga's disappearance. These messages are currently under further investigation.

On October 12, 2023, during a search in a wooded area near Interstate 20 and Lawson Road, the Seagoville Police Department discovered her remains within the Mesquite city limits. The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office positively identified her and ruled her death a homicide.

After an extensive investigation, the Mesquite Police Department identified 34-year-old Sixto Banegas Matute of Balch Springs, Texas, as the alleged suspect in Olascoaga's homicide. Matute was arrested on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, and charged with murder.

The police emphasize that the investigation into this case is still ongoing.
