On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, Terrell Police Narcotics Investigators conducted an operation at a motel in the 1600 block of S. State Highway 34, resulting in the arrest of 27-year-old Carl Wayne Smith from Plano. Investigators, upon making contact with Smith in his motel room, observed paraphernalia consistent with smoking fentanyl in plain view.
Subsequently, a warrant was obtained to search the premises, leading to the discovery of 36 pills believed to be fentanyl among Smith's belongings. Smith now faces charges of Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Penatly Group 1 (fentanyl) weighing equal to or more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams. The investigation is ongoing, and Smith is currently in custody pending further legal proceedings.
