Edgewood Independent School District (EISD) in Van Zandt County is in mourning after the sudden and devastating loss of two elementary school students and their father overnight in a devastating fire.
The victims have been identified as Wilhelm Read, 7, and Brantley Read, 6. The boys' father also died. The fire that led to this heartbreaking loss occurred at their home, although specific details surrounding the cause are yet to be disclosed.
The Edgewood ISD released a statement expressing the significant impact this heartbreaking event will have on both students and staff within the district.
"School counselors are available to assist both students and staff members following this tragic event," the EISD statement read. "Even if the students are not in the same class, grade, or campus, they may be affected. There is no time limit on the effects or grief."
In response to the incident, EISD is urging parents to reach out to the appropriate campus if they believe their child needs to speak with a member of the district's counseling team.
"Our hearts go out to the Read family, our students, staff, and the entire Edgewood community in this time of loss. Please join us in praying for the Read family during this time," EISD expressed in their statement.
