On January 9, 2024, at 6:45 pm, the Emory Fire Department received a call regarding a fuel spill at Brookshires in Emory. The incident involved a truck leaking approximately 55 gallons of fuel from a drum at the entrance to the parking area.
Emory fire units and personnel swiftly responded to the scene, taking immediate action to contain the spill. A dam was deployed to halt the flow of fuel, and absorbent material was applied to prevent any further damage. Recognizing the severity of the situation, Rains County Emergency Management and Fullers Hazmat team were called in for additional assistance.
Due to the significant volume of spilled fuel, Fullers Hazmat team was tasked with not only managing the spill but also power washing the parking lot to mitigate potential damage to the asphalt surface. The coordination between the Emory Fire Department, Rains County Emergency Management, and Fullers Hazmat team ensured a prompt and effective response.
Special thanks were extended to Fullers Towing and Recovery for their hazmat support, H&F Wrecker for taking possession of the affected vehicle, and the Emory Police Department for ensuring public safety by restricting access to the hazardous area during the emergency response.
