In a significant announcement today, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that the City of Tyler has earned the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation from the Texas Music Office (TMO). The recognition follows the city's successful completion of the multi-step certification process aimed at stimulating music-related economic development and job creation.
The Music Friendly Texas program, pioneered by TMO in 2016, is the first of its kind nationwide, focusing on fostering the growth of the music industry in cities and communities across Texas.
"Congratulations to the City of Tyler on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation," applauded Governor Abbott. "Music is a cornerstone of the Texas brand and deeply ingrained in our cultural traditions. Certified communities, supported by the Texas Music Office, actively contribute to the development of the local music industry, driving job creation and economic growth."
Mayor Don Warren expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "As the Mayor of our vibrant city, I am thrilled to announce Tyler's official designation as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community. This recognition not only honors our rich musical heritage but also celebrates our ongoing commitment to fostering a supportive environment for musicians and the music industry."
Chair of the Visit Tyler Music Friendly Advisory Board, Carleen Dark-Bays, emphasized the importance of the designation for Tyler. "Becoming a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community and standing alongside esteemed Texas cities is crucial for Tyler. This milestone will unlock opportunities and foster invaluable connections for our local artists and musicians, making a statement to artists everywhere that Tyler is deeply dedicated to nurturing the music industry's evolution."
Deputy City Manager Stephanie Franklin highlighted the timing of Tyler's designation, coinciding with the reopening of the Historic Mayfair Music and Dance Hall. "Tyler's commitment to nurturing artistic expression aligns perfectly with this milestone. We honor our musical legacy while setting the stage for future artists to make history."
The Music Friendly Texas Community Certification Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, January 11, at 5:00 PM, at Liberty Hall, 103 E Erwin St, Tyler, TX 75702.
