On December 31, 2023, Marshall Police Officers responded to an assault call on East Highway 80 in Marshall. The incident involved a verbal altercation escalating to a physical confrontation, during which a woman reported being choked by a man, temporarily impeding her ability to breathe. Upon the officers' arrival, both individuals were separated.
The woman was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Marshall for medical attention. The alleged assailant, identified as 22-year-old Jorge Castaneda of Marshall, was arrested on the scene. He has been charged with assault family member in-house by impeding breathing or circulation.
Upon further investigation, additional charges of sexual assault were brought against Castaneda.
