Lufkin Police Probing New Year's Eve Shooting as Celebratory Gunfire Incident

The Lufkin Police Department is currently investigating an overnight shooting incident that occurred in the 2200 block of North Raguet Street. A local man, whose identity is being withheld at this time, was hospitalized after being struck by a stray bullet.

The incident is believed to be a result of celebratory gunfire at midnight. The victim was transported to a hospital in Tyler, where he is receiving medical attention. As of 11:45 a.m. on Monday, the man remains hospitalized, and his condition has not been disclosed.

The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE:

The victim in the New Year’s morning shooting is identified as Danny McKenna, 67, of Nacogdoches.

McKenna remained in a Tyler-area hospital in critical but stable condition as of this morning.

McKenna was struck by a stray bullet from a nearby home while attending a family member’s New Year’s Eve party in the 2200 block of North Raguet Street just after midnight yesterday.

McKenna went by ambulance to a local hospital where he was later transferred to Tyler for a higher level of care.

Detectives are continuing the investigation into what occurred.
