Road Improvement Project on FM 1487 in Red River County Set to Commence

In an announcement made by Texas Department of Transportation officials, a rehabilitation project aimed at enhancing a section of FM 1487 is scheduled to commence on Monday, January 8.

The contract for the project, valued at over $6.7 million, has been awarded to AK Gillis & Sons LLC, based in Sulphur Springs. Weather permitting, the contractor has been granted 304 working days to complete the project. Road alert barricades are set to be installed on Tuesday, January 2, with construction work officially beginning on January 8. The anticipated completion date for this project is mid-August 2025.

The scope of the project includes widening and rehabilitating the pavement on FM 1487 from the intersection at FM 910 to the intersection at FM 412. Drainage structures will be improved, a new pavement surface will be applied, and pavement markings will be added by the contractor.

During the construction period, temporary lane closures and lane shifts will be implemented. Officials have advised motorists to exercise caution, reduce speed, and be attentive to workers on site. Travelers in the area are urged to be vigilant of barricades, traffic controls, and signs. Additionally, motorists are reminded to avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or engaging with car audio or navigation systems while driving through work zones.
