Major Drug Bust in Kaufman: Terrell Law Enforcement Seizes Cocaine, Cash, and Vehicles in Successful Operation

In the early morning hours of Thursday, December 28, 2023, law enforcement in Kaufman faced a setback as Terrell PD Narcotics Investigators, supported by The Kaufman County SWAT team, executed a Narcotics search warrant at 1096 James Dr., Kaufman, Texas.

Samuel Cordero, a 41-year-old resident of Kaufman, found himself in custody following the operation. The search unfolded successfully, revealing a substantial amount of powder cocaine, specifically 1.29 kilograms. Additionally, law enforcement seized $12,756.66 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales. Further investigations led to the confiscation of an estimated $20,000 from various linked accounts associated with illicit activities. Cordero now faces charges related to the possession of a controlled substance, specifically MAN DEL CS PG 1 >400G.

In addition to the narcotics and cash, two vehicles were seized from the residence during the operation.

Interim Chief of Police, Arley Sansom, praised the collaborative effort, stating, "This is a clear testament to what this specialized team is capable of doing when they are properly funded, staffed, and equipped. We have received incredible support over the last few years from our community, and our city leadership. This team deserves the credit. This is a big win for them and for the Community of Terrell."

The success of the operation can be attributed, in part, to the increased funding and staffing directed towards the Narcotics unit in Terrell over the last two years. The city's mayor and council allocated resources to enhance the unit, with the results becoming evident. In September, new officers completed their field training, allowing two experienced staff members to join the Narcotics unit—one on September 1st and the other on September 25th. The newly formed team orchestrated the execution of the search warrant, resulting in the significant drug and cash seizure.

Mayor Rick Carmona expressed satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the city's commitment to citizen safety. "The safety of our citizens is always a high priority for this mayor and council. We are proud of our officers. It is our desire to eradicate drugs and criminal organizations like this in Terrell. It is our hope that this sends a strong message that we will not tolerate this conduct in and around our community."
