On Friday afternoon at 12:52, a routine traffic stop in the 10-block of NE 35th took an unexpected turn when the driver, later identified as Shavon Deonta Green, 31, fled from the scene. The initial stop was initiated by a Paris Police Officer for failing to signal a lane change.
Before the officer could approach the vehicle, Green accelerated away, prompting the officer to activate overhead emergency lights and siren in pursuit. The chase continued until the driver finally came to a stop at the 3500 NE Loop 286.
Upon stopping, Green abandoned the vehicle and attempted to evade arrest on foot by fleeing into a hotel room. Paris Police officers quickly secured the area and knocked on the door of the room where Green had taken refuge.
After gaining entry, law enforcement successfully arrested Shavon Deonta Green on charges of Evading Arrest-Detention in a Motor Vehicle, a third-degree felony. The arrest was made without further incident, and Green is now in custody.
