On November 29, 2023, a coordinated effort by law enforcement officials resulted in multiple arrests at the Exxon Gas Station, located at the "Y" intersection in Athens.
Narcotics Investigators Jonathan Daille and Wayne Nutt, accompanied by Crime Scene Investigators Jonathan Barrios and Tony Simmons, observed 21-year-old Johnathan Losey of Athens, Texas, at the gas station. Losey, wanted on two charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Evading Arrest or Detention in Henderson County, was promptly taken into custody.

During the arrest of Losey, 28-year-old Michael Dziema, also from Athens, was identified by Investigator Barrios. Dziema was found to have active warrants out of Eustace, Texas, and a subsequent search revealed he was in possession of a .45 caliber pistol. Given Dziema's previous felony conviction, he was placed in custody for the outstanding warrants and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
James Bevers, who was in his vehicle at the gas station, became the focus of Investigators Daille and Nutt. A search of Bevers' vehicle led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, resulting in his arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Tamper/Fabricate Physical Evidence.
Later in the day, Investigator Barrios conducted a routine traffic stop on East Corsicana in Athens due to expired registration. A search of the vehicle led to the arrest of 46-year-old Cristy Jones, the passenger, who was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine. Jones was taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Henderson County Jail.
