Substitute Teacher Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault on Tyler ISD Student

Davian Hunter

A substitute teacher employed by Tyler Independent School District (ISD) has been taken into custody following accusations of sexual assault against a student.

29-year-old Davian Isaiah Hunter was arrested on Tuesday night in connection with the incident that allegedly occurred on Friday, Oct. 27, at Hubbard Middle School. According to the arrest affidavit, a student reported that Hunter sexually assaulted them in a school bathroom.

Tyler police interviewed Hunter a few days later, during which he reportedly denied the accusations, admitting only to being in the same stall as the student. Hunter has been charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between an educator and a student. His total bond was set at $500,000 for both charges.

Tyler ISD promptly terminated Hunter's employment as a part-time substitute teacher at the outset of the investigation. District officials stated that Hunter will never be permitted back on any Tyler ISD properties.

In an official statement, Tyler ISD officials emphasized the necessity of maintaining confidentiality due to the ongoing investigation involving a juvenile. The district is legally obligated by state and federal laws to withhold further information.

"This is unpardonable and unforgivable. We have faith that Smith County justice will prevail," Tyler ISD officials declared in their statement.
