On Sunday, November 26, 2023, at approximately 10 am, the Marshall Police Department responded to a call reporting gunfire between occupants of two vehicles in the 1000 block of Louisiana St.
Upon arrival, officers located one of the vehicles involved and initiated a "high-risk" traffic stop. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Shelby Laine Duncan of Marshall, proved uncooperative and failed to comply with commands. A high-risk traffic stop involves officers drawing weapons when there is probable cause to believe the individual may pose a threat.
During the arrest attempt, Duncan became physically combative with officers. Despite the resistance, law enforcement successfully apprehended her. Duncan was subsequently booked into the Harrison County Jail on charges of Assault on a Public Servant and Resisting Arrest/Search/Transport. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
