On October 26, 2023, Officer Bailey of the Forney Police Department responded to a distress call on the Gateway Bridge, where a female was seemingly contemplating jumping. Displaying calming concern, Officer Bailey updated fellow officers on the situation as he approached the individual.
Sergeant Markeith Pleasant, who happened to be off duty at the time, recognized the urgency of the situation and promptly joined Officer Bailey. With a compassionate approach, Sgt. Pleasant engaged the distressed female in conversation, subtly closing the distance and successfully pulling her to safety.
In recognition of their exceptional dedication and courage during this emergency, Officer Bailey was presented with a meritorious service award, and Sergeant Pleasant received a Lifesaving Award. The commendations were announced during the City Council meeting on November 20th, where the heroic actions of both officers were sincerely appreciated by the community.
