In a Saturday morning incident on November 28, 2023, at 11:21 AM, an older couple faced a harrowing situation when their dog escaped from their residence in the 3300 block of West Kaufman Street.
The couple, ages 78 and 80, attempted to control their dog as it began barking at a pair of dogs across the street. Unfortunately, their efforts proved challenging, leading to the dog biting the female owner on her hand.
A Good Samaritan passing by witnessed the struggle and stepped in to assist. Together, the couple and the passerby managed to secure the dog on a leash. However, the situation took a turn for the worse when the dog pulled free from the female owner's hand and lunged at the passerby, biting him on the inside of his left leg.
In an attempt to free himself from the dog's relentless grip, the passerby resorted to discharging his pistol three times, striking the aggressive dog. The dog is deceased.
Both the passerby and the female dog owner sustained injuries and were treated at Paris Regional Health. In response to the incident, a Paris Police Officer took a Discharge Firearm Report to document the discharge of a firearm within the city limits.
