On Monday afternoon, November 20, 2023, at 5:08 PM, a white Tahoe was reported stolen from the 1400 block of North Main Street. The incident escalated into a dangerous chase as the suspect, identified as 17-year-old Shainah Eternity Hicks of Pittsburg, led law enforcement on a reckless pursuit.
A Paris Police Officer spotted the stolen vehicle and activated overhead lights, but the Tahoe continued south on 271, passing other vehicles while evading police. The pursuit took a perilous turn when Hicks intentionally and recklessly drove into oncoming traffic.
In an attempt to bring the situation under control, a second Paris Patrol unit positioned itself in front of the Tahoe. However, the stolen vehicle struck the patrol unit from behind, causing significant damage. The Tahoe began to lose control, ultimately crashing into a metal fence.
Upon apprehension, Hicks underwent Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which she failed. Subsequent searches revealed the presence of Cocaine, leading to her arrest and booking on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Additional charges include Unauthorized use of a Vehicle, Evading Arrest Detention with a Vehicle, Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant, Driving While Intoxicated, and nine separate counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
The latter charges stem from Hicks's intentional attempts to strike other vehicles during the pursuit, putting drivers and passengers at risk.
Shainah Eternity Hicks is now in custody, facing multiple charges related to the theft, pursuit, and endangerment of public safety.
