Pedestrian-Vehicle Collision Claims Life of Terrell Resident

In a tragic incident on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at approximately 10:05 pm, the Terrell Police Department received multiple 911 calls regarding a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 800 block of E. Moore Ave. First responders arrived at the scene and found a 60-year-old man identified as Fernando Rodriguez-Villanueva, a resident of Terrell, who had sustained major injuries after being struck by a vehicle.

Emergency Medical Services, provided by CareFlite, transported Mr. Rodriguez-Villanueva to Texas Health - Kaufman, where he was later pronounced deceased. The vehicle involved in the tragic incident was a 2022 Nissan Kicks, driven by 48-year-old Shawn Potter, also a resident of Terrell.

According to witnesses at the scene, Mr. Rodriguez-Villanueva was attempting to cross E. Moore Ave. in a diagonal direction as eastbound traffic was approaching. The driver in the left lane spotted the pedestrian and decelerated while also sounding the vehicle's horn to alert the pedestrian. In response, Mr. Rodriguez-Villanueva moved out of the left driving lane and into the right driving lane, where he was struck by Mr. Potter's vehicle.

The Terrell Police Department's Advanced Crash Investigations unit responded to the scene to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The investigation is currently ongoing.
