After deliberating for approximately three hours, a Lamar County jury has found 18-year-old Dykalen Donnell Douglas guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter. According to court documents, Douglas engaged in a physical altercation with 31-year-old Hireal Shawn Rios on West Cherry Street. Following the altercation, Douglas retrieved a rifle from his vehicle and shot Rios in the face. The jury has sentenced Douglas to 18 months in State Jail for his actions.
The incident took place on February 3, 2023, when witnesses reported that a black man retrieved a rifle from his vehicle and shot the victim in the face following a physical altercation. The suspect fled the scene before law enforcement officers arrived. On February 6, a murder warrant was issued for Douglas. He subsequently turned himself in on February 8, 2023.
