On Tuesday, October 31st, 2023, the City of Kaufman Police Department responded to a call regarding suspicious circumstances at the Walmart parking lot in the 300 Block of Kings Fort Parkway, located within the city limits of Kaufman. The call reported a male subject sitting in a green pickup truck, visibly bleeding.
The Kaufman Police Department, Kaufman Fire Department, and CareFlite ambulance were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the male subject was found to be deceased. To ensure the integrity of the crime scene, the Kaufman County Precinct #1 Constable's office provided vital assistance in securing the area.
The City of Kaufman Police Department remains committed to a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the victim's death.
Justice of the Peace Precinct #1, Judge Mary Bardin, was present at the scene and pronounced the victim deceased at the location. Following this, the deceased individual, identified as Waylon Preston Cooper, was transported to the Dallas County Medical Examiners' Office for further examination and inquiry.
The Kaufman Police Department is actively working to locate and notify all the family members of the victim.
