Standoff Ends Safely: Deputies Subdue Armed Man After Three-Hour Negotiation in Panola County

On October 31, 2023, at 3:45 PM, Panola County dispatch received an emergency call for assistance at a residence on County Road 407 in the Antioch community. The female caller reported that a male subject, identified as Bradley Clackley, had assaulted his grandmother and chased her to a neighbor's house with a gun. The caller advised that Clackley had returned to his grandmother's residence and was now inside the residence with a firearm.

Panola County Sheriff's Office deputies, investigators, members of the special response team, administrators, and the Precinct #2 Constable's Office quickly responded to the scene. Deputies established a security perimeter around the residence, and all vehicle traffic was closed to CR 407 near the location.

After an approximately three-hour standoff during which investigators and administrators attempted to negotiate with Clackley, investigator Chad Gray was able to deploy an effective TASER shot, creating an opportunity for deputies to enter the residence. Clackley, who had been holding a handgun to his head and threatening to shoot himself, attempted to physically resist the deputies. However, the deputies were able to safely subdue him and secure the firearm.

During the negotiations, Clackley informed the deputies that he had ingested a large amount of medication. After being detained, he was transported by emergency medical services to a local area hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Investigators intend to pursue criminal charges against Clackley upon his release from the medical facility.
