In a recent incident in Smith County, Texas, a man named Steven Shelton-Groves, 30, was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to evading police and crashing into two vehicles. The incident occurred in February when Shelton-Groves was driving a U-Haul van filled with stolen property.
According to the Smith County Sheriff's Office, deputies discovered Shelton-Groves' probation violation related to a weapons law violation and considered him possibly armed and dangerous. A deputy attempted to stop him on Old Longview Road, but Shelton-Groves sped away, initiating a pursuit.
The chase came to an end near the intersection of E. Fifth Street and SSE Loop 323 in Tyler. Shelton-Groves continued to evade law enforcement, running a red signal light and colliding with two vehicles moving south on Loop 323. The crash resulted in injuries to several individuals, including Shelton-Groves and his female passenger.
Shelton-Groves pleaded guilty in the 475th District Court on Monday morning, leading to his 30-year prison sentence.
