Denton County Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Child Pornography Violations

A Denton County man, identified as James Buck Briggs, 49, has been sentenced to federal prison for child pornography violations in the Eastern District of Texas in Sherman, announced U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs.

Briggs pleaded guilty to two counts of distributing child pornography and was sentenced to 240 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant.

According to public information, the case dates back to December 2021 when an undercover law enforcement officer encountered Briggs in an online chat room dedicated to the sexual abuse of children. Briggs and the undercover officer engaged in a chat, during which Briggs sent the officer a video depicting child pornography involving a very young female victim.

The undercover officer, in an effort to apprehend Briggs, was able to trace the IP address to Briggs' residence in The Colony. Subsequently, a search warrant was executed at Briggs' residence. During the search, Briggs' cellular phone was examined, revealing hundreds of images containing child pornography.

Following the investigation, Briggs was indicted by a federal grand jury on January 20, 2022.
