Last week, Texarkana police responded to a call regarding trespassing at a vacant house in the Highland Park neighborhood. The homeowner, in the process of renovating the property, reported that a man and a woman had been repeatedly entering the premises in her absence, rummaging through items.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Joseph Denton in the yard. Denton claimed that they had permission from the "owner" to take items from the carport. However, the owner was present at the time and promptly refuted Denton's story, stating she had never given such permission. Suspecting Denton was not being truthful, officers arrested him. During a subsequent search, they discovered methamphetamine hidden in his shirt pocket.
Around the same time, Texarkana Arkansas Police received a 911 call reporting a shooting at the Walmart on North Stateline. Responding officers and an ambulance arrived at the location but found no evidence of a shooting. It was determined that the call had originated from the vacant house where Denton was apprehended. Further investigation revealed that the caller was a woman, leading authorities to believe she was Denton's accomplice.
With the homeowner's consent, officers entered the house and located April Collvins hiding in the attic. Collvins had made the false 911 call in an attempt to divert officers away from the house while Denton was being arrested. However, this ill-conceived plan resulted in Collvins facing additional charges.
Both Denton and Collvins were transported to the Bi-State Jail and booked on charges related to the trespassing incident. Denton faces charges of Criminal Trespass and Possession of a Controlled Substance, with a bond set at $13,000. Collvins, on the other hand, was charged with Criminal Trespass and Communicating a False Report, and her total bond is $6,000. As of the latest update, both individuals remain in custody.
