COMMERCE, Texas - A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a July home invasion in Commerce where armed intruders allegedly held residents at gunpoint before one of the occupants retrieved a firearm and opened fire, leaving one of the suspected robbers wounded.
Commerce Police announced that 51-year-old Barbara Nell Price was taken into custody on the evening of Aug. 13 following the issuance of four arrest warrants tied to the July 27 shooting in the 900 block of Plum Street.
Price was booked into the Hunt County Jail on warrants for Burglary, Aggravated Robbery and two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The warrants were issued through the 196th District Court in Greenville.
Her bond was set at a combined $1.8 million.
The arrest comes less than two weeks after 47-year-old Michael Lamar Winton was arrested in connection with the same incident.
Residents Allegedly Held at Gunpoint During Home Invasion
The incident unfolded at approximately 9 p.m. on July 27.
According to the investigation, the suspects allegedly broke into a residence in the 900 block of Plum Street while armed and held the occupants at gunpoint.
During the confrontation, one of the residents was able to retrieve a firearm and opened fire on the alleged intruders.
Police said Winton also fired at the residents during the incident, but none of the occupants was struck.
Winton suffered multiple gunshot wounds and attempted to escape on foot. He made it a short distance from the residence before collapsing.
Responding emergency medical personnel transported him to a hospital for treatment.
Winton Faces Additional Aggravated Robbery Charge
Winton was initially arrested Aug. 2 and charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Other Felony, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Tampering with Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair an Investigation, and two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
As the investigation continued, police obtained an additional warrant charging Winton with Aggravated Robbery. That warrant was served while he was being held at the Hunt County Jail.
His combined bond is now $1 million.
Winton was also on parole for a previous conviction and has been charged with a parole violation.
“I would like to thank all the officers, other agencies, the Commerce Fire Department, Hunt County AMR, and all parties involved in responding to and investigating this case for their hard work and dedication to protecting our community and pursuing justice for victims,” Commerce Police Chief Corley Weatherford said.
The Commerce Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing.
