BELL COUNTY, Texas — A Holland man has been charged with a first-degree felony after a deputy-involved shooting during a domestic disturbance call Friday afternoon east of Holland.
According to the Bell County Sheriff's Office, dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 12:37 p.m. on June 19, 2026, reporting a violent domestic disturbance involving an individual experiencing a mental health crisis in the 18000 block of Farm-to-Market Road 2268.
Deputies responded to the residence, contacted the reporting party, and attempted to make contact with the suspect.
During the encounter, authorities said the suspect displayed what deputies believed to be a firearm. Deputies then discharged their service weapons.
The suspect, later identified as 53-year-old Brian Keith Fikac of Holland, sustained injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening. He was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center for treatment.
No deputies were struck by gunfire during the incident. However, one deputy suffered an injury and was transported to a hospital for evaluation. The deputy has since been released and will continue receiving follow-up medical treatment.
In accordance with department policy, the Bell County Sheriff's Office requested the Texas Rangers to conduct an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
Just after 10 p.m. Friday, Texas Rangers completed their on-scene investigation.
Authorities said investigators recovered a rifle from the scene. The Bell County Sheriff's Office also provided body-worn camera footage to both the Texas Rangers and the Bell County District Attorney's Office as part of the ongoing review.
Following a review of evidence presented by the Texas Rangers, the Bell County District Attorney's Office accepted a charge of Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant against Fikac.
Justice of the Peace Larry Wilkey issued an arrest warrant and arraigned Fikac, setting bond at $500,000.
Fikac remains hospitalized while receiving treatment for his injuries and other unrelated medical conditions. He remains in the custody of the Bell County Sheriff's Office.
Meanwhile, the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division continues investigating the original Assault Causing Bodily Injury report that prompted deputies to respond to the residence.
As is standard procedure following a critical incident, the three deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave while the Texas Rangers continue their investigation.
The Bell County Sheriff's Office thanked the Little River-Academy Police Department, Rogers Police Department, Holland Police Department, Bell County Communications Center, Holland Fire Department, American Medical Response, and Baylor Scott & White Medical Center for their assistance during the incident.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
