JACKSONVILLE, Texas — A one-year-old child was safely recovered Wednesday afternoon after being taken from a residence, and a suspect is now in custody, police said.
According to the Jacksonville Police Department, officers responded around 1:01 p.m. April 22, 2026, to a welfare concern in the 800 block of Myrtle Drive.
During the investigation, officers determined that a suspect, identified as 42-year-old Brian Damon Black of Jacksonville, unlawfully entered a residence and took the child before fleeing the scene.
The initial call came from a witness who reported seeing a man carrying a child into a nearby wooded area.
Officers immediately began searching the area and maintained an active search effort.
At approximately 2:52 p.m., the child was located unharmed and safely reunited with the mother.
Police continued searching for the suspect and later found him in a wooded area in the 1000 block of Skyline. Authorities said Black attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody after a brief pursuit.
Black has been charged with burglary of a habitation, kidnapping and evading arrest or detention.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and no additional information is being released at this time.
