ELMO, TX — The Elmo Fire Department has released a touching update after receiving an unexpected message from a woman they rescued during a serious crash earlier this fall.
The woman, identified as Robyn, was involved in a violent collision on September 19, 2025, on I-20 in Kaufman County after being struck by an 18-wheeler. Her vehicle flipped several times and came to rest upside down. Elmo firefighters were among the first to reach her. She was later airlifted to Baylor Hospital for treatment.
Ahead of Thanksgiving, Robyn reached out to the department to express her gratitude for their actions that day:
**“Good morning. This is Robyn. You assisted me during my accident on September 19, 2025, on I-20 in Kaufman. I was hit by an 18-wheeler and my vehicle flipped a few times and I was upside down when y’all got to me. I was then airlifted to Baylor Hospital.
I wanted to reach out to you to say this Thanksgiving, when we say the things we are thankful for this year, you are at the top of my list. I thank God for you daily and how not only were you there for me but also my husband. Your calmness and just the way you stayed with me truly kept me calm and gave me a feeling of ‘it’s going to be ok.’
Also, you calling my husband giving him updates truly gave him peace of mind to drive the three hours to get to me. Even calling to check on me that evening was so beyond what your job calls for.
So this Thanksgiving and holiday season I want you to know you are truly a blessing to me and my family. Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season. Stay safe.
Robyn”**
The department said they were honored by her message and grateful to know she continues to recover. They also noted that hearing from survivors is rare but deeply meaningful to first responders who often don’t know the final outcome of the people they assist.
The Elmo Fire Department wished Robyn and her family a healthy holiday season and encouraged drivers to stay alert and safe as traffic increases during the holidays.
