Hunt Memorial Hospital District, doing business as Hunt Regional, has been certified as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, a nationally recognized accreditation body. This certification followed a complex, two-year process involving documentation, procedure evaluation, public awareness, and extensive staff training.
Additionally, Hunt Regional Healthcare recently received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award. This award recognizes the hospital's commitment to providing stroke patients with the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately saving more lives and reducing disability.
Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and a major cause of disability in the United States. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel supplying oxygen and nutrients to the brain is blocked by a clot or bursts. This prevents part of the brain from receiving the necessary blood and oxygen, leading to brain cell death. Early detection and treatment of stroke are crucial for improving survival rates, minimizing disability, and accelerating recovery times. The advancements in stroke care at Hunt Regional are a significant benefit to the Northeast Texas area.
“Hunt Regional is overjoyed to receive this elite acknowledgment of hard work and commitment to the citizens we serve,” stated Hunt Regional Healthcare CEO Lee Boles. “We continually strive to provide the very best medical care for our community. This achievement further demonstrates the goals our staff is devoted to achieve.”
